Design
This eight-piece blouse closes at the left side-front rather than straight down the center, giving it a slightly asymmetrical line. The neck can be cut for an oval opening finished with a roll collar, or left as a plain square neck. Sleeves come in two lengths — full-length with a gathered wristband, or a seven-eighth length finished with a cuff — and the seven-eighth version is itself perforated to shorten further still, so the pattern covers a good range of sleeve options from a single set of pieces.
A Moment in Fashion History
Pattern 3824 appears in Vintage4me2's own holdings of a 1924 Ladies' Home Journal catalog, shown alongside nearly a dozen other blouse and waist patterns on a single guide-chart page — a good reminder of just how many blouse variations a home sewer could choose from in a single season, each built around small differences in neckline, sleeve length, and closure rather than a dramatically different silhouette.
Illustration
The cover illustration has been digitally restored and enhanced by Judy Yates to highlight the original fashion artwork while preserving the character and artistry of this historic Ladies' Home Journal pattern envelope.
Connections
This blouse is one of three distinct takes on the ladies' blouse featured together on the same page of our 1924 Ladies' Home Journal catalog — each solving the era's move away from a fitted waist in its own way. See our other two blouses from that same page: the surplice-front, kimono-sleeved Pattern 3920, and the straight-hanging, sashed Pattern 3898.
