Original 1924 Ladies' Home Journal Pattern No. 3601 - Slip-On Dress

Original 1924 Ladies' Home Journal Pattern No. 3601 for a ladies' and misses' slightly long-waisted slip-on dress, with full or short-length kimono sleeves. The four-piece gathered skirt sets front and back panels in panel effect against circular side sections, finished in either of two lower-edge outlines, all bloused softly at the waistline with elastic. Factory Folded and Unused.

Design

Pattern 3601 gets its shape from the skirt rather than the bodice. A simple kimono-sleeved slip-on top, in full or short length, sits over a four-piece skirt where straight front and back panels contrast against circular side sections — a construction that gives real visual movement without any fitted seaming. The waistline blouses gently over an elastic casing rather than a fitted belt, and the lower edge can be finished in either of two outlines depending on the view chosen.

A Moment in Fashion History

Pattern 3601 appears in Vintage4me2's own 1924 Ladies' Home Journal catalog holdings, on a page devoted to the magazine's economical, easy-to-make offerings for the season. The panel-and-circular-section skirt construction reflects a common early-1920s approach to adding shape and interest to a dress without departing from the era's straight, slip-on silhouette.

Illustration

The cover illustration has been digitally restored and enhanced by Judy Yates to highlight the original fashion artwork while preserving the character and artistry of this historic Ladies' Home Journal pattern envelope.
