Design
Ladies' Home Journal Pattern 3216 is an eight-piece set pairing a negligee with its own matching cap. The negligee's long shoulder line carries into a one-piece three-quarter length sleeve, with a pocket inset directly into the front rather than patched on top, closed with a tied sash at the waist. The coordinating cap gathers a crown onto a wired front-and-back brim, tied to stay in place - a small but complete finishing touch to the set.
A Moment in Fashion History
A negligee sold with its own matching cap, as this pattern is, reflects how thoroughly the boudoir became its own coordinated sphere of dress by the mid-1920s - not just a robe thrown on, but a considered set meant to be seen in, whether receiving a visitor at breakfast or simply lounging at home.
