Design
Butterick Pattern 416 outfits a doll for every part of the day. The coat (Views A and A-1) has a standing collar, long sleeves, a patch pocket, and a tie belt, finished with rows of stitching, and may be lined or left unlined; it is paired with a hat made from a crown and a deep turned brim. The dress (Views B and B-1) is cut with front, back, and sleeve in one, tied at the neck and belted at the waist, with little pockets, and is worn over gathered bloomers (View B-2). The envelope notes that the embroidery on View B is adapted from Butterick Transfer 10833. Underneath go a combination (View C) and a pair of pajamas with pockets and gathered ankles (Views D and D-1), trimmed with beading, edging, and ribbon. Butterick suggested velour or any coat material for the coat and hat; chambray, pin check gingham, linen finished cottons, or sateen for the dress and bloomers; and nainsook for the underwear. Its Winter 1922–23 Quarterly showed this set on the Christmas page, "Dainty Wee Clothes for the Christmas Dolls." Fourteen pieces, with Butterick's Deltor guide for cutting and making.
