Design
Butterick Pattern 419 gives a little girl's doll a whole wardrobe. The dress slips on with front, back, and sleeve cut in one piece, gathered at the neck into a binding and tied with ribbon. It is made with shorter puffed sleeves (View A) or long sleeves (View A-1), trimmed with edging and ribbon bows, and worn over a pair of bloomers (View A-2). View A adds a ruffled cap with a trimming band, tied under the chin. The bathrobe (Views B and B-1) is bound in ribbon, with a patch pocket and a cord tie at the waist, in two sleeve lengths, and the nightgown (View C) has a square neck finished with edging and ribbon. The envelope suggests dimity, pin dot Swiss, or lawn for the dress and cap; cotton ratine or flannel for the bathrobe; and nainsook or lawn for the nightgown. Butterick's Winter 1922–23 Quarterly showed this set on its Christmas page, "Dainty Wee Clothes for the Christmas Dolls," beside a Santa Claus suit and stuffed animal toys. Thirteen pieces, with Butterick's Deltor guide for cutting and making.
