Design

Simplicity Pattern 9138 dresses a long-haired teen doll in the fashions of 1970, from prairie maxi to fringed poncho. The long dress (View 1) has long set-in sleeves gathered by elastic, a lace-ruffled collar and hem, baby rick-rack, and a ribbon tie belt. View 2 is a short, button-trimmed mini dress with short set-in sleeves, cut in crosswise stripes or plain fabric. View 3 pairs a long skirt and a short bolero, both edged in metallic novelty braid, with a lace-trimmed blouse with long raglan sleeves. The nightgown (View 4) ties at the front with ribbon and is trimmed in lace, with matching panties. View 5 is a braid-trimmed tunic with raglan sleeves over pants, and View 6 layers a fringe-trimmed poncho over a short-sleeved blouse and pants. The dresses, blouses, and tunic close with snaps at the back, and the skirt and pants have elastic waists. Simplicity suggested printed voile, broadcloth, batiste, crepe, or jersey, with double knit for the mini dress, velveteen or satin for the skirt, bolero, tunic, and pants, and crochet-like fabric for the poncho. Doll Details

Ideal's Beautiful Crissy arrived in 1969 with a ponytail that grew longer at the push of a button, and her younger cousin Velvet followed in 1970 with the same growing hair, which is why the illustrations show such dramatic manes. The envelope names Velvet for this size. This pattern is a Size 15½", for a teen doll 15½ inches tall. For this size, the long dress takes ⅜ yard of fabric, the short dress ¼ yard, the View 3 blouse ¼ yard and the skirt and bolero ¼ yard, the nightgown and panties ¼ yard, the tunic and pants ⅜ yard, and the View 6 blouse ¼ yard, pants ⅜ yard, and poncho ¼ yard.
