Design

Simplicity Pattern 6768 dresses a mid-1960s toddler doll from playtime to bedtime. View 1 is a sleeveless romper with ribbon-tie bows at the sides and elastic at the leg edges forming little ruffles, worn under an A-line pinafore with a contrasting pocket, both edged in baby rick-rack. The nightgown (View 2) is long and full, with a bias-bound neck tied with a ribbon bow and long raglan sleeves gathered by elastic into ruffles. View 3 is a dress with its skirt gathered to a yoke, a square collar trimmed in lace, and short puffed sleeves finished with elastic ruffles, worn over matching lace-edged panties. The coat (View 4) has long raglan sleeves, double-breasted button trim, and a matching tie hat. View 5 is a sleeveless version of the yoked dress, with a square collar, two patch pockets, a matching hat, and panties. Simplicity suggested cottons and blends, linen, silks, and synthetics, with wools for the coat and velveteen for the dress or coat.

This wardrobe was drafted in one size for the long-haired 18-inch toddler dolls of the mid-1960s, and the envelope names three of them: Effanbee's Susie Sunshine, Mattel's walking Baby First Step, and Ideal's Goody Two Shoes, who walked in her own shoes. This pattern is a Size 18", for a doll 18 inches tall. For this size, the romper takes ⅜ yard of fabric and the pinafore ¼ yard; the nightgown ½ yard; the dress and panties ½ yard of 35" or ⅜ yard of 45" fabric, plus ¼ yard for the collar; the coat and hat ⅝ yard of 35", ½ yard of 45", or ⅜ yard of 54" fabric; and the sleeveless dress, hat, and panties ⅝ yard of 35" or ½ yard of 45" fabric.
