Design
Vogue 1313 builds a complete day suit from twenty pattern pieces. The dress is cut slender through the body with a slightly extended shoulder line for quiet structure without bulk, while the semi-fitted jacket layers over it with an away-from-neckline shaped collar that stands apart from the throat, wrist-length sleeves, and a pair of welt pockets at the hip. Suggested in substantial fabrics like wool jersey, wool flannel, silk linen, gabardine, or linen, the design holds its shape as tailored daywear while still moving easily with the body.
A Moment in Fashion History
Vogue Paris Original patterns were licensed directly from French couture houses, and this one carries the Nina Ricci name into a slender dress-and-jacket ensemble featured in the Vogue Pattern Book for April/May 1964. By this period, the house's day-to-day design direction had largely passed to a new generation - Gérard Pipart joined Nina Ricci in 1963 - even as the founder's name remained on the label. The result here is a tailored, quietly structured suit that reflects the early-1960s taste for clean lines just ahead of the youth-driven shift still to come.
