Design
Simplicity 4826 gathers its apron skirt to a belt that ties in back, with crossed suspenders buttoning to the belt's reverse. Style I dresses up a heart-shaped bib and pocket with self-ruffling trim. Style II outlines the skirt, pocket, and bib in purchased ruffling instead. Style III skips the ruffle for a cleaner look, edging the bib and pocket in rick-rack, with rows of rick-rack trimming the skirt itself. Nine pattern pieces are included. The pattern was designed as a matching "Mother and Daughter" set - Simplicity 4825 offered the coordinating adult version.
A Moment in Fashion History
Matching mother-daughter aprons were a popular novelty in the early 1940s, letting a household coordinate its kitchen wear across generations from a shared pair of patterns. Featured in Chatelaine magazine, this heart-and-ruffle design leans into a distinctly playful, child-focused take on the era's everyday apron.
