Design
Simplicity Pattern 1561 is a dress with a high neckline, back button closing, and full gathered skirt, which may be worn alone or with a matching fully-faced short jacket. View 1 has the bodice cut crosswise with band trim on both dress and jacket, a contrasting jacket facing, and contrasting collar and trims throughout. View 2 uses the same dress-and-jacket structure finished with braid trim instead. View 3 is a sleeveless dress with no jacket, styled specifically for border print fabric along the skirt. Fourteen pieces given.
A Moment in Fashion History
Dress-and-jacket sets like this one gave an older girl's wardrobe real versatility - one dress that could go bare for warm weather or layer under a matching cropped jacket for cooler days or a more finished look. View 3's border-print styling reflects a specific mid-1950s fabric trend, cutting the skirt to showcase a printed border along the hem rather than scattering the motif throughout.
