The dress is pressed in inverted plaits at each side of center-front and center-back, and closes on the left shoulder and under the left arm. Its illustrated views show a wide, cape-like collar with a matching belt for one look, and a deep pointed collar with contrasting cuffs and a narrower belt for another; interchangeable scarf and bias collars extend the range further. Width at the lower edge runs about 2⅛ yards. Depending on which of the six views is made, this size takes between 3¾ and 4⅛ yards of 39-inch fabric for the dress itself, plus small amounts of additional fabric (as little as ¾ yard) for whichever collar, cuff, or scarf option is chosen. The wide, dramatic collar shown in the main illustration was very much of its moment, framing the shoulders in a way that made even a simple dress look considered. This is an Own Name pattern: the New York Pattern Company issued these envelopes without its usual branding, so that a department or dry-goods store could sell them as a house line. This copy comes from that world. Its original glassine envelope survives, stamped Barron Bros. of Texas, the small dry-goods store where the pattern was originally sold.
