The waist has crossed-over fronts with an attached collar, shaped by a dart under the arm and inverted tucks near the lower edge of the front, while the back is gathered onto a hip-yoke. A vestee adjusts underneath the crossed fronts, and the envelope figures the collar, vestee, and cuffs in a contrasting fabric. The set-in sleeves are either long with applied cuffs or short. The attached two-piece circular skirt sweeps about 2¾ yards at the lower edge in this size, with a 2⅜-inch hem, and the dress measures 48 inches at center-back from neck to lower edge, including the hem. For size 36 the envelope calls for 3½ yards of 39-inch fabric (or 4 yards of 35-inch, or 2⅞ yards of 54-inch), plus ⅞ yard of 39-inch contrasting fabric for the collar, vestee, and cuffs. A wide light collar and vestee set against a printed dress, as the envelope illustration shows, gave a simple slip-on style a dressier, more finished look, while the circular skirt supplied the flare below a natural waistline. This is an Own Name pattern: the New York Pattern Company issued these envelopes without its usual branding, so that a department or dry-goods store could sell them as a house line. This copy comes from that world. Its original glassine envelope survives, stamped Barron Bros. of Texas, the small dry-goods store where the pattern was originally sold.
