The collarless waist closes under the left arm with lapped fronts, and the long sleeve is gathered into a deep cuff that may be made single or double - but the sleeve is also perforated so it can be cut short instead and finished with its own applied band, giving the wearer a choice between a long, fitted cuffed sleeve or a simpler short one. The three-piece circular skirt is attached so that it extends up over the waistline, with the join concealed under a removable belt at the natural waist.

A Moment in Fashion History

Our Own patterns like this one were sold under a private label rather than the New York Pattern Company's own branded name, letting small department and dry-goods stores offer a full dressmaking line as if it were their own house brand. The convertible sleeve option - long and cuffed, or short with a banded edge - let a single pattern serve as both a cooler warm-weather dress and a more covered option for cooler days, a practical bit of versatility well suited to a budget-minded wardrobe.

Connections

This pattern is part of our ongoing exhibit, In Name Only - a growing collection of New York Patterns and Own Name Patterns from the 1930s.
