Sleeves are cut kimono-style, in one with the bodice, and are drafted short but can be lengthened into a tailored sleeve if a longer style is wanted. Below the waist, a two-piece hip-yoke smooths the fit before the skirt releases into inverted plaits pressed down each side of both the center-front and center-back - twice the plait treatment of a simpler design. Pressing inverted plaits at both the front and back of the skirt, rather than just one, gave a fuller, more considered flare through the hem. This pattern was sold under the New York Pattern Company's "Our Own" trade name and includes the original glassine outer envelope stamped for Barron Bros., the small Texas store where it was originally sold.

Connections

This pattern is part of our ongoing exhibit, In Name Only - a growing collection of New York Patterns and Own Name Patterns from the 1930s.
