Original 1933 Our Own Pattern No. 109, produced by the New York Pattern Company under its "Our Own" trade name, for a ladies' and misses' separate blouse and skirt in Size 18 (36" Bust, 39" Hip). The skirt closes at the left side seam, worn with a blouse cut in waistcoat style with lapped fronts and an attached collar, its belt slipping through slashed openings at the side-fronts. Factory Folded and Unused.

Design
This separate blouse and skirt is cut from nine pattern pieces. The blouse is styled with lapped fronts in a waistcoat effect, finished at the neck with an attached collar that may be made single or double. Rather than tying at the waist in the usual way, the belt slips through slashed openings cut into the side-fronts of the blouse, anchoring it neatly at the body. Set-in sleeves complete the bodice, while the skirt closes at the left side seam and finishes about 2⅛ yards wide at the lower edge in a size 16.
A Moment in Fashion History
The slashed-opening belt treatment on Pattern 109 is a small but clever bit of early 1930s construction ingenuity - rather than adding a separate belt loop or casing, the belt itself simply threads through slits already built into the blouse front, keeping the waistcoat-style closing clean and uninterrupted while still giving the wearer a defined waistline.
