Design
New York Pattern 728 is a Louise Scott Creation - the drop-shoulder waist keeps the upper body clean and unfussy, with a high neck and slashed front opening offered as either an attached round collar or an underfaced V-neck. Below the removable belt, the skirt drapes into soft plaits at each side rather than gathering into fullness, giving the finished dress a narrow, draped line through the hip and leg. Six pattern pieces are included.
A Moment in Fashion History
Designer-name patterns like this Louise Scott Creation let home sewers work from a named designer's silhouette rather than a generic house style - a selling point pattern companies leaned on through the early 1950s. Here, the drop-shoulder waist and belted midsection show the era's continued emphasis on a defined waistline, even as the draped, narrow skirt takes a quieter approach than the decade's more dramatically full silhouettes.
