Design
This dress closes down the front through a fitted, button-front waist with an attached collar, styled here over narrow stripes for a crisp, shirtwaist-inspired look. Sleeves can be set long, finished with a turned-back cuff, or short with a simple band. Below the waist, a four-piece skirt takes plaits at each side of the front for easy stride and movement, worn under a removable belt cinched with a round buckle. Thirteen pattern pieces in all.
A Moment in Fashion History
This envelope carries the NRA Blue Eagle, the National Recovery Administration's "We Do Our Part" emblem that pattern companies and other businesses displayed between 1933 and 1935 to show compliance with early New Deal fair-practice codes. Front-closing, shirtwaist-styled dresses like this one were an everyday staple of the period, prized for being easy to get in and out of without help.
