Design

Pattern 3589 slips over the head and closes at the left side of a shield front. A one-piece tunic gathers over the sides and back of the dress, its upper edge finished with a row of scallops; the collar can be left plain or cut with matching scallops of its own. The long one-piece sleeve is perforated to shorten, and its wristband or cuff may likewise be plain or scalloped. View B adds a separate belt. Nine pattern pieces in all, offered across girls' sizes 8 to 14.

A Moment in Fashion History

Pattern 3589 appeared in the Ladies' Home Journal Fashion Quarterly for Spring 1923, in a spread titled "Essentials of the Children's Wardrobe" alongside a full range of patterns for girls and boys alike - dresses, rompers, bathing suits, night drawers, and a boys' suit - reflecting the magazine's broader push to outfit the whole family from a single well-chosen set of Home Patterns.
