Design
This jumper dress is built for flexibility, with a long list of options packed into a single envelope. The neck can be finished round with a collar, or perforated for a square opening, and the front edges can be left plain or rolled back to form soft revers. Pockets are optional, and the guimpe worn underneath can close at either the front or the back, depending on preference. The full-length sleeve is perforated so it can be cut short instead. Ten pattern pieces in total - a genuinely adaptable design that let the home dressmaker tailor the finished look to whatever fabric or occasion was at hand.
A Moment in Fashion History
The jumper dress - worn over a separate guimpe or blouse - was a practical mid-1920s staple, letting a single outer garment be restyled simply by swapping the piece worn underneath. The Home Pattern Company's own 1924 catalog page grouped this design among several similarly adaptable dresses, all built around the era's appetite for multi-purpose patterns that could stretch a limited wardrobe budget further.
