Design

Pattern 3359 opens in front at the neck and slips over the head, cut in just three pieces. View A adds a sailor-style collar with a tie at the neck and a single patch pocket at the chest; View B simplifies the look with a plain round collar. Both views share the same full-length kimono sleeve, which can be shortened at a marked perforation line, and both are finished with a self-fabric belt tied at the back.

A Moment in Fashion History

Pattern 3359 appeared in the January 1922 issue of The Ladies' Home Journal, described as a cut-in-one-piece serge frock trimmed with rows of soutache braid in black, or alternating red and blue, finished with a serge belt and black grosgrain tie. The magazine praised the design for offering "perfect poise" to girls from six to fourteen, a nod to the easy, unfussy silhouette that simple slip-on dresses like this one brought to children's fashion in the early 1920s.
