Design

Seventeen pattern pieces build this tailored suit. The jacket's shoulder yokes are cut in one with the front and back panels, with soft gathers released just below the yoke seam for shape without bulk, and dart tucks placed above the pockets for a smooth fit through the hip. A notched collar finishes the neckline, and the sleeve can be made long or short from a single one-piece pattern piece. The skirt is cut in six gores for gentle, even flare. View 1 shows the suit in a solid color with a contrast blouse; View 2 shows the jacket made up in a printed fabric with matching skirt.

A Moment in Fashion History

The tailored two-piece suit was a wartime wardrobe workhorse, offering the polish of a matched set while getting more mileage from fabric than a full dress silhouette. Hollywood Pattern 1194 also belongs to the company's Four Star Patterns line, a premium 25-cent tier positioned above Hollywood's standard 15-cent patterns during the WWII years.

Illustration

The cover illustration has been digitally restored and enhanced by Judy Yates to highlight the original fashion artwork while preserving the character and artistry of this historic Hollywood pattern envelope.
