Design

The sleeveless, scoop-neck bodice stays constant across all three views. View A takes it into a slim three-gore skirt, gathered slightly at the side front and finished with a back pleat. View B gathers a fuller four-gore skirt into the same waistline instead - and can take a sheer overskirt, worked into that same waistline seam, for an extra layer of movement over the gathered fullness. View C is the slim skirt again, simply styled with a different belt option. Eleven pieces in total, with a buckled belt, tie belt, or purchased belt to finish any of the three.

A Moment in Fashion History

By 1963, McCall's had clearly refined its "choose your silhouette" formula into something genuinely simple - eleven pieces where earlier versions ran to twenty, an "Easy to Sew" label, and a seal recommending it to beginners. The addition of an optional sheer overskirt shows the idea maturing even further: not just slim versus full, but a way to dress the full skirt up without touching the pattern's core construction. It's the same hedge McCall's had been offering for several years by this point, now polished down to its simplest form.
