Design
McCall 8132 offers two distinct takes on a fitted, sleeveless bodice. View A is a tailored button-front vest with a notched shirt-style collar and a nipped waist, cut to sit like a cropped jacket over a full skirt. View B removes the collar and buttons entirely for a plain scoop-neck shell. Both views are built from a close-fitted thirteen-piece pattern with front interfacing and optional lining, giving the vest enough structure to stand on its own as outerwear for View A or layer cleanly under a jacket for View B.
A Moment in Fashion History
By 1950, the fitted vest had become a favorite way to add a tailored, structured element to the era's increasingly full-skirted silhouettes without the weight or formality of a full jacket. Worn here over a plaid gathered skirt or a delicate lace one, McCall 8132 shows how a single well-cut separate could shift a look from casual daytime wear to something dressier, simply by changing what it was paired with.
