Design
Pattern 3241 is a versatile three-in-one design, each version sharing the same standing mandarin collar. View A is a full-length unlined coat with long sleeves and frog closings down the front. View B is a belted shirtwaist-style dress with cap sleeves and button closing. View C is a simpler duster, buttoned the full length and worn open over another outfit. Eight pattern pieces make up the set.
A Moment in Fashion History
The mandarin collar and frog closing seen on View A reflect the mid-1950s fascination with Asian-inspired silhouettes, popularized in American ready-to-wear and film costuming of the period. McCall's "Easy to Sew" label made this more exotic detailing approachable for the home sewer, while the simpler duster and dress views offered everyday versions of the same signature collar.
