Design
An eleven-piece pattern covering both dress-up and play. View 1 is a sailor-inspired dress with inverted pleats falling from the shoulders in front and a smooth panel back, closing double-breasted below a striped sailor collar, with short cuffed sleeves and an optional patch breast pocket and belt. View 2 keeps the same dress shape but is finished instead with a contrast collar and cuffs. View 3 leaves the dress behind entirely for a playsuit: shorts joined to a bib-front top with crossed suspenders in back, built for a full day of active, easy-care wear.
A Moment in Fashion History
The nautical, sailor-collar silhouette was a perennial favorite for children's wear through the early 20th century, and Hollywood Patterns' pairing of a dressy version with a practical suspender-back playsuit reflects how one pattern purchase was expected to cover a child's whole range of daily activities, from a swing in the yard to a more formal outing.
