Design

Anne Adams Pattern 4531 packs a whole doll wardrobe into eighteen pieces. The jumper is cut in four flared panels and worn over a puff-sleeved blouse tied at the neck with ribbon. One set of robe, coat, and jacket pieces makes three garments: a short jacket with a round collar, worn with a pointed hood-style hat; a longer buttoned coat; or a long robe with a collar, a heart-shaped pocket, and a tie belt. The pajamas come with long or short sleeves, and the lingerie is a slip with a lace-edged ruffle and lace-trimmed panties. When the pattern ran in the newspapers in December 1947, Anne Adams offered it as a Christmas outfit "to thrill a little girl and her doll," promising it was pretested, easy to use, and simple to sew.

Doll Details

Like most mail-order patterns, this one was ordered through a newspaper column and sent by post. It was made only in doll heights from 12 to 22 inches, with no body measurements given, so measure your doll's height to choose the fit. This pattern is a Size 18", for a doll 18 inches tall. For this size, the jumper and hat take ⅜ yard of 35" fabric, with ⅜ yard of contrast for the jacket and hat facing; the robe ½ yard of 54" fabric; the coat ⅜ yard of 39" fabric; the pajamas ⅝ yard; the slip ¼ yard; the panties ⅜ yard; and the blouse ½ yard. Trims for this size are 1⅜ yards of lace for the slip, ¾ yard for the panties, ¾ yard of ¼" ribbon for the blouse, and ⅜ yard of 1" ribbon for the hat.
