Design
McCall Pattern 632 dresses a baby doll the way a real infant was dressed in the 1930s, with a full layette of soft, carefully finished pieces. View A is a long coat with a yoke, long sleeves finished with cuffs, and fronts embroidered with floral sprays, worn with a lace-trimmed bonnet. View B is a short-sleeved romper with a waistband and banded legs, paired with a ruffled sunbonnet. View C is the nightingale, a square wrap with ribbon-bound edges, drawn in at the neck with a casing and drawstring, and finished with an embroidered motif at the corner. View D is a long dress with a front panel of lace insertion and edging, shown with a matching bonnet. View E is a simple slip to wear underneath. The two transfer pieces carry the embroidery motifs shown on the envelope, including the butterfly and flower designs. The bonnets for Views A and D share one pattern and are trimmed with lace insertion, edging, and ribbon, with a tarlatan interlining to give the brim its shape.
Doll Details
This pattern is a Size 20, made for the 20" Dy-Dee Doll. Dy-Dee was Effanbee's drink-and-wet baby doll, introduced in the mid-1930s, and the envelope names it directly: "Baby Clothes for Dy-Dee Dolls." McCall offered this wardrobe in four sizes to match the Dy-Dee family of dolls. The envelope lists sizes by number only and gives no body measurements, so measuring your doll against the finished pieces is the best way to confirm the fit.
