Design
Pattern 1577 crosses its front straps over the bodice, meeting a shaped patch pocket at the waist, with a climbing morning glory vine embroidered the full length of the straps and around the pocket edge. Rick-rack braid trims every edge for a crisp, homemade finish. Five pattern pieces plus one transfer, cut for a Medium figure.
A Moment in Fashion History
Morning glories were a favorite embroidery motif of the early 1950s, their trailing vines lending themselves naturally to the long straps and curved pockets typical of full bib aprons. McCall's Pattern 1577 uses the flower generously, tracing it the full length of the apron front rather than confining it to a single corner - a bolder, more decorative approach than many of its more restrained contemporaries.
