Original 1953 McCall Printed Pattern No. 9439 for a misses' dress, offered in three views. Views A and C give a double-breasted, shawl-collar bodice with a contrast collar and cuffs; View B closes plainly down the back. All three cinch at a belted waist above a gathered, deeply full skirt that sweeps to about 99" around the lower edge in Size 14. Complete Nice Condition.

Design
McCall 9439's Views A and C build real structure through the shoulders with a double-breasted, shawl-collar bodice, shown here with a crisp contrast collar and cuffs; View B trades that for a plainer back-buttoned closing. All three views share the same belted waist and gathered, richly full skirt, which sweeps to roughly 99" around the lower edge at Size 14. Eleven pattern pieces are included, suggested in lightweight wool, wool jersey, cotton broadcloth, crepe, shantung, bengaline, or surah, with linen or pique for the contrast.
A Moment in Fashion History
By 1953, the fitted-waist, dramatically full-skirted silhouette that followed Dior's 1947 New Look was thoroughly established, and pattern companies were finding fresh ways to dress up the formula - here, a tailored double-breasted, shawl-collar bodice borrowed a menswear-inspired structure and set it against one of the era's fullest skirts.
