Design

A guimpe is a simple underbodice, traditionally worn beneath a jumper or pinafore-style garment, and this three-piece version is built along easy kimono lines with the sleeve cut in one with the body. It closes in the back rather than the front, keeping the front clean for whatever it's layered under, and the full-length sleeve gathers to a wristband — or can be perforated down to seven-eighth or short length for a lighter version.

A Moment in Fashion History

Pattern 3322 appears in Vintage4me2's own holdings of a 1924 Ladies' Home Journal catalog, shown on a page of everyday waists and blouses under the heading "You Cannot Go Wrong with a Home Pattern." The guimpe itself is an older garment type carried into the 1920s, reflecting the era's practical layering habits as much as its evolving silhouette.
