Design

Hollywood Pattern 1470 centers on a versatile eight-gored skirt, which can be worn on its own or topped with a coordinating jumper, made plain or with a pretty scalloped edge, and buttoning at the left hip. The tuck-in blouse gathers at a high neck finished with a tied fold band, with a choice of long sleeves gathered to cuffs or a simpler short sleeve — giving the wearer a mix-and-match set that could be styled several different ways from a single cut of fabric.

A Moment in Fashion History

This envelope carries the "Hollywood Four Star Patterns" branding at 25¢, a step up from the company's usual 15¢ price. It also bears a stamped notation reading "Our Ceiling Price" — a requirement of the wartime Office of Price Administration, which mandated that retailers clearly post ceiling prices on goods to help enforce anti-inflation price controls during WWII. It's a small but genuine artifact of the era's economic regulations, stamped directly onto a piece of everyday home sewing.

Illustration

The cover illustration has been digitally restored and enhanced by Judy Yates to highlight the original fashion artwork while preserving the character and artistry of this historic Hollywood pattern envelope.
