Design

Butterick 8283 offers two complete looks from the same core pieces. View A's jumper skirt flares out from an inverted front pleat and pairs with a short puff-sleeved blouse finished with tucks and button trim, optional saddle stitching adding a handmade touch. View B keeps the same full skirt on its own, worn instead with a lace-trimmed blouse in three-quarter sleeves. Ten pattern pieces are included, suggested in lightweight wools, corduroy, velveteen, cotton or rayon suitings, cotton broadcloth, or nylon and dacron sheers.

A Moment in Fashion History

A jumper-and-blouse set like this one gave a growing girl real everyday versatility - swap the blouse, and the same full skirt could move from playtime to a dressier outing. The tucked, button-trimmed blouse detailing reflects the same appetite for structured, finished daywear that shaped women's fashion throughout the decade, scaled down for the youngest set.

Illustration

The cover illustration has been digitally restored and enhanced by Judy Yates to highlight the original fashion artwork while preserving the character and artistry of this historic Butterick pattern envelope.
