Design

Simplicity 9994 is a complete toddler outfit in three pieces. The playsuit has elastic casings at the back waistline and leg edges for a round, bubble shape, and its front buttons to suspenders that cross at the back. The lined pinafore has a square neckline, patch pockets, and a back button closing; in View 2 it opens into a split back that flutters over the playsuit. The bonnet's crown is gathered to a brim, with elastic at the back and ribbon ties. View 1 adds embroidered eyelet at the playsuit neckline and pinafore pockets; View 2 puts eyelet ruffles across the playsuit back and the pinafore's lower edge. Nine pieces.

A Moment in Fashion History

In the early 1970s, toddler summer clothes mixed old-fashioned sweetness with bold modern prints. Sun bonnets and eyelet ruffles recalled earlier generations, while bright gingham and whimsical novelty fabrics, like the rooster print on this envelope, gave them a cheerful '70s look. Mix-and-match sets like this one let a mother sew a whole summer wardrobe from one pattern.
