Design
Pattern 3301 offers three ways to make up the same long-waisted silhouette. The sleeveless version opens on the left shoulder with a round or square neckline and ties with a sash at the waist; a longer-sleeved version instead closes at the back and is fitted with a one-piece sleeve that can be shortened at a marked perforation line. All three views share the same two-piece circular skirt, joined to the bodice at the waist with an elastic-gathered casing. The pattern is cut in eight pieces in all.
A Moment in Fashion History
Pattern 3301 appeared in the January 1922 issue of The Ladies' Home Journal, in a feature on clothing for girls eight to fourteen. The magazine pictured a navy serge sleeveless version of this dress with a deep hem of plaid material, worn with a narrow patent-leather belt - an example of the era's move toward lighter, more comfortable coats and dresses for growing girls, in place of the stiff, boxy garments of earlier years.
